Requiring an aircraft that could go up against the F-14 Tomcat, the Soviet Union began working on the MiG-21s replacement. Desiring a faster, long-range aircraft that could haul an impressive payload, the development of the aircraft was handed to the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau. The MiG-23s production began in 1969, resulting in over 5,000 aircraft being built. The MiG-27, a strike version, was also developed and produced. This Academy kit with over 70 plastic parts faithfully recreates the Russian MIG-27 “Flogger D” in 1/72 scale.
