The Grumman F9F-2 Panther was one of the first successful carrier-based jet fighters used by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. It was also the first jet fighter to see significant combat for the U.S. Navy, especially during the Korean War. The F9F-2 became the most widely produced variant of the Panther family and set the standard for naval jet aviation in the early 1950s.
